Ahold Delhaize takes systems offline after a security incident disrupts Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall
Ahold Delhaize says it is dealing with a security issue in its network and has taken some systems offline as a precaution, affecting its Albert Heijn supermarket chain and sister brands Etos and Gall & Gall. Their websites, apps and customer service are unavailable, no online orders can be placed, and Albert Heijn's logistics systems are down, so online-ordered groceries cannot be delivered until further notice. The disruption has been in place since Sunday, 11 October.
Albert Heijn says stores remain open and checkouts are working, and that national bonus offers from this week's leaflet are valid, but electronic shelf labels may still show last week's promotional prices, so the price at the till can be higher than the shelf price. Savings features linked to the Mijn AH app and the personal Bonus card are not working, so customers may miss personal discounts; the company has asked shoppers to keep their receipts so missed discounts can be compensated when possible.
Albert Heijn first reported the disruption as an "IT incident" and later described it as a "cybersecurity incident". The company says it is investigating and working to restore services, and that protecting the data of customers, employees and partners is its top priority; it has not said what caused the incident or when services will be available again, and it has not confirmed whether customer data was affected.
